Along the hog’s back
Four of us met up at Richmond and cycled to Surbiton where we gained another rider. The 11.32 train took us to Guildford where after negotiating the traffic system we were faced with a challenging hill (just two managed to ride all the way) leading to a traffic free path through woodlands and a rapid descent into Compton. After lunch at the Watts Gallery we visited the 1900 art-nouveau chapel and the church of around 1100. Another woodland path led us under the A3 to Puttenham then quiet roads to Seale and Waverly Abbey. We returned through the village of Hurtmore which seemed appropriate for its position at the top of yet another hill .
